Justice Moses Richards of the Special Criminal Court
yesterday 9th February 2010 convicted and sentenced one Mustapha Gaye, a
resident of Latrikunda Sabiji, to death.
After a marathon trial, the court found the accused, Mustapha Gaye, guilty of
the murder of one Ansumana Dampha by stabbing him with a broken bottle, sometime
last year at Latrikunda Sabiji.
In delivering judgment before a crowded courtroom, the trial judge stated that
the prosecution's case was that the accused was charged with murder. He said in
support of their case, the prosecution had called in several witnesses, and that
their evidence proved the prosecution case that the accused indeed caused the
death of the deceased.
Justice Richards declared that the totality of the evidence adduced convinced
the court that the prosecution has proven their case beyond any reasonable
doubt, and that the accused person indeed committed the offence charged.
According to the judge, taking the life of innocent people has become a growing
menace, and a cause for alarm.
As he put it, murder is becoming too frightening and rampant.
He declared that he would continue his crusade against those who commit murder,
until there is a society free of murderers.
