Following the miraculous return of Nigeria’s President Umar Musa Yar’adua into the country, strong indications emerged yesterday that arrangement have been concluded for Acting President Goodluck Jonathan and members of the federal Executive Council to meet with Yar’adua.
This development is viewed as part moves to douse tension over the secrecy surrounding the president’s health condition as well as the way and manner the president returned to the country last Wednesday.
The deal, according to sources in the presidency is one of a new strategy employed by the president’s close aides in order to regain the support of some of the cabinet members who are said to begin to have a change of heart following their inability to see the President after his return into the country.
Yar’dua’s returned into the country in the wee hours of Wednesday after a three months medical trip in Saudi Arabia.
According to sources “you cannot blame these people because Mr. President left this country three months and since then they have not seen him. And now that he is back, they are yet to see him, therefore, it natural to be discouraged by such kind of situation.”
It was further gathered that some ministers, said to be strong loyalists of Yar’adua are billed to see him tomorrow before Wednesday when the cabinet is expected to see the president as a team after the FEC meeting.
An insider into close to Aso Rock Villa where the president lives said that at this week weekly council, some cabinet members are planning push for resolution to compel the presidential aides to allow them meet with Yar’adua.
But it is not clear whether the deal was aimed at pre-empting that move or it was the outcome of a meeting between the president’s wife Hajiya Turai Yar’adua, Speaker Dimeji Bankole , governors caucus of the Peoples Democratic Party and party’s leadership in which key resolutions were said to have been reached to douse tension in the country.
It was reported that the meeting was at the instance of Turai, Speaker Dimeji Bankole, governors of Bauchi, Isa Yuguda; Gombe, Danjuma Goje, Kwara,Bukola Saraki; Kebbi, Sa’idu Dakingari; Katsina, Ibrahim Shema, leadership of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Since he came back, it is said that nobody outside his immediate family has had a chance to see him including Jonathan.
The sources added that the will, “put traitors to shame especially those who are bent on painting a bad picture Mr. President. We shall whether these kind of characters would have the guts meet the president eye to eye.”
On the controversy over the Yar’adua medical report, the sources said as far they are concerned, the acting President had received series of medical reports not one as stated by the President’s spokesman Olusegun Adeniyi.
The sources also denied reports that the health condition of the president is terrible saying that he is recuperating very fast.
