Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir on Tuesday met visiting Libyan Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Ashour bin Khayal and reviewed with him the security of joint borders and issues of mutual concern.

We reviewed the developments of the situations in the region generally, together with the security of joint borders and issues of regional and common concern," Khayal told reporters after his meeting with the Sudanese president here.

The Libyan official said he conveyed to the Sudanese president a message from the Libyan government about enhancing bilateral relations as well as the issues of common concern.

He expressed appreciation of the Libyan government to the Sudanese government, reiterating Libya's solidarity with Sudan.

Earlier Tuesday, Khayal met his Sudanese counterpart Ahmed Ali Karti and reviewed ways to strengthen bilateral ties.

"We discussed... how to develop the two countries' relations in the political, economic and security fields besides cooperation at the international forums," Karti told reporters after meeting with Khayal in the capital Khartoum.

"We hope this visit would avail the opportunity to review the two countries' relations which suffered from problems during the era of the previous regime," Karti said.

Khayal, for his part, said that "we came to Sudan to discuss how to strengthen the two countries' ties and to thank the Sudanese government which supported the Libyan people during their revolution."

The Libyan minister, who arrived in Khartoum Tuesday leading a high-level delegation, reiterated that the two countries were working closely to boost bilateral cooperation in political and economic spheres to serve the interests of both sides.
