20120813 AFP Gunmen attacked a mainly Christian village outside the flashpoint central Nigerian city of Jos, killing at least one person and injuring two others, a military spokesman said Sunday.
Captain Salisu Mustapha of the special task force in Plateau State said the gunmen stormed Kombul village on Friday night.
He said the military immediately deployed to the village, but the assailants had fled, leaving their vehicle behind.
A man who claimed to be a relation of the victims said four people were killed in the attack.
"These are my people. I am saying four died and three people were injured," Bulus Dabai told AFP.
Plateau state falls in Nigeria's so-called "Middle Belt", where the mainly Christian south meets the majority Muslim north, and has been the site of waves of sectarian violence in recent years.
The area has also been attacked by the Islamist group Boko Haram in recent months.
