Attorney General Abdel Maguid Mahmoud said on Saturday that he will not leave his post unless he is assassinated.

"I said before the president and the prime minister that I will remain in my post. I will defend myself, the position of attorney general, the independence of the general prosecution and that of the judiciary," Abdel Maguid told Reuters TV on Saturday.

"I will not leave my house or my job unless I am assassinated," the general attorney said.

Abdel Maguid pointed out that these threats will not deter him, adding, "My words are directed to every Muslim Brotherhood member, I will not be threatened."

President Mohamed Mursi issued last week a decree sacking Abdel Maguid from his post as attorney general and appointing him as Egypt's ambassador to the Vatican.
