A man charged by the US with having a role in the attack on the US consulate in the Libyan city of Benghazi has mocked threats coming from Washington.
On Thursday, Ahmed Abu Khattala accused US authorities of “playing with the emotions of the American people” and “using the consulate attack just to gather votes” for the November presidential election.
On September 11, US Ambassador to Libya Christopher Stevens and three other Americans were killed in an attack on the consulate building in Benghazi amid demonstrations against an anti-Islam movie produced in the United States.
In his address to the 67th annual session of the United Nations General Assembly on September 25, US President Barack Obama said, “There should be no doubt we will be relentless in tracking down the killers and bringing them to justice.”
“Why is the United States always trying to impose its ideology on everyone else?” Abu Khattala asked.
“Why is it always trying to use force to implement its agendas?”
Abu Khattala also accused the US of interfering in Libya’s planned constitution.
