Visiting U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton met Monday with Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika over regional issues, especially the situation in Mali, the official APS news agency reported.
"We had very detailed discussions on the situation in the region (Sahel), especially in northern Mali," Clinton told reporters after her meeting with Bouteflika.
Their meeting also focused on the issue of terrorism and drug trafficking in the region, added Clinton, who began Monday morning a working visit to Algeria.
Clinton's visit comes shortly after the first session of Algerian-U.S. strategic dialogue, which was held on Oct. 19 in Washington. Clinton's last visit to Algiers was on Feb. 25, as part of her tour in the Maghreb region.
