Four persons were killed and seven others sustained severe gunshot injuries late Sunday when unidentified gunmen stormed a local bar and shot at fun-seekers in Gashish district of Barkin Ladi local government area in north- central Nigeria's Plateau State, police authorities aid Monday.

State police spokesperson Abuh Emmanuel confirmed the attack to reporters, saying the police got the information in the early hours of Monday and swung into action.

"According to the report we got, the gunmen numbering about five got to the local bar and opened fire on the persons. Owner of the bar was among the injured persons who are now being treated at the state specialist hospital," he said.

No arrest has been made in connection with the attack, although the police has commenced a full investigations into the act, the cop added.

Appealing to residents to assist the police in their investigation, Emmanuel called for calm in the area, pending the time perpetrators of the attack will be tracked by security operatives.

While Plateau State is known as one of the flashpoints of terrorists operating mainly in the northern and central parts of Nigeria, Barkin Ladi, a restive area in the state has also witnessed recent attacks including the daylight killing of a federal Nigerian lawmaker and a member of the state parliament together on the same day in July.
