Eight people, including the head of the Tataouine League, were arrested Monday over the death of Lotfi Naguedh, a member of a local opposition party, Nidaa Tounes (The Call of Tunisia), the official TAP press agency reported.
Naguedh was killed in clashes between Ennahdha followers and those of Nidaa Tounes in the southern town of Tataouine on Oct. 18. The country's interior minister said at the time that the death was caused by a heart attack.
Beji Caid Essebsi, head of Nidaa Tounes party, said Naguedh's death was due to a political assassination.
A number of political parties and civil society organizations have denounced the growing political violence in the country.
