Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir is in good condition after undergoing a surgery for treating vocal cords inflammation in Saudi Arabia, a spokesman said Wednesday.
"Al-Bashir will leave the hospital in a few hours after spending 24 hours in the hospital. The surgery was 100 percent successful," Imad Sid Ahmed, the Sudanese president's press adviser, told Xinhua.
Al-Bashir has undergone a small surgery on the vocal cords for the inflammation which caused hoarseness in his voice, he noted.
Khartoum's Al-Ray Al Am daily on Wednesday quoted Mohamed Hassan al-Bashir, the president's brother, as saying that "al- Bashir is fine and in good condition after undergoing the surgery. "
"Al-Bashir does not suffer from a serious disease as circulated by some," he added, noting that the president was suffering from inflammation on the vocal cord, but speaks normally.
He said al-Bashir will not stay in the hospital for more than five days, pointing out that there were some people trying to depict the president's illness as serious.
Al-Bashir assumed power in Sudan following a military coup on June 30, 1989, and won the last presidential election in April 2010.
