At least five people were killed in an attack by marauders on a village in Nigeria's north central Plateau State, a statement by the Special Task Force (STF) said Friday.
Two marauders were killed on Thursday when military operatives repelled an attack on the Kura Falls village located in the Barkin Ladi area.
The statement said three villagers were killed and several others injured by the attackers before the military team was able to rescue them.
"We also recovered a baby belonging to a couple, who were believed to be killed by the attackers. The helpless baby was rescued in a nearby bush," the STF statement said.
The security operatives engaged the marauders in a fierce gun battle killing two of the bandits.
Expressing concern over the incessant attacks on villages in the areas of Barkin Ladi and Riyom, the statement said security operatives will no longer condone further attacks in the restive city.
"We are ready to tackle these attackers. We want to restore peace in Plateau and will not compromise our work here," the statement added.
