Morocco on Tuesday welcomed the agreement signed by various Syrian opposition groups for forming a new opposition coalition, official MAP news agency reported.
"Morocco welcomes the agreement signed on Sunday in Doha by the various components of the Syrian opposition on forming a new national representative coalition uniting their efforts," Moroccan Foreign Minister Saad Eddine el-Othmani was quoted as saying on the sidelines of an Arab-European foreign minister meeting held Tuesday in Cairo.
He described the agreement as an important step towards unifying all the components of the Syrian opposition, expressing hope that the crisis will be resolved as soon as possible.
The Moroccan official also said the preparation is ongoing to hold the next meeting of Friends of Syria in mid-December.
Syrian opposition groups signed a formal agreement for forming the National Coalition for the Opposition and Revolutionary Forces Sunday evening in the Qatari capital.
