Algeria on Tuesday launched its first photovoltaic plant in the locality of Bousmail in the west of capital Algiers, local APS reported.
The plant is part of a cooperation agreement between the German Aerospace Center and the Algerian Unit for the Development of Solar Equipment (UDES).
UDES Director Nachida Kersbadji Merzouk said this plant was constructed in line with the latest German technology, adding that "it is also an experimental project which could spark interest of students and researchers in clean energy plants."
Earlier this month, the North African nation announced that it plans to have 40 percent of its power production rely on renewable energy by 2030.
