South Sudan chief mediator Pagan Amum arrived in Khartoum Saturday to reactivate the cooperation agreement signed between Sudan and South Sudan in September.
September.
"We came to Khartoum to meet with Sudan government officials and negotiating committees to reactivate the implementation of the cooperation agreement between the two countries and translate it on the ground," Amum told reporters upon arrival at Khartoum airport.
He noted that his visit intended to remove the barriers facing the implementation and boost the cooperation between the two countries to achieve the interests for both peoples.
Amum said he will deliver a message from South Sudan President Salva Kiir Mayardit to his Sudanese counterpart Omar al-Bashir.
The two countries' negotiating committees will meet on Monday to prepare the necessary details for the implementation of the agreement, he said.
He added that the joint security and political committee between the two countries are expected to meet in Khartoum early next week to discuss the points of difference prior to implementing the signed agreements as one package.
On Sept. 27, Sudan and South Sudan signed a package of agreements on various issues during a presidential summit in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
Witnessed by members of the African Union High-Level Implementation Panel on Sudan (AUHIP), the two sides inked three deals on cooperation, security and post-secession matters.
