Algerians on Thursday went to elect their local representatives at 1,541 People's Communal Assemblies (APC) and 48 Provincial Assemblies (APW) across the country as part of the local elections in which 52 political parties and hundreds of independent candidates are contesting.
There are 1,541 municipalities and 48 provinces in Algeria.
The FLN managed to grasp the majority of seats in 159 out of the 1,541 municipalities nationwide, and in two out of 48 provinces, Ould Kablia said.
In terms of seats, FLN collected 7,191 out of 24,891 seats in APCs, and 685 out of 2,004 seats in APWs, the official specified.
The minister further added that the National Democratic Rally ( RND), a governmental ally of FLN, came second by assuring an absolute majority in 138 APCs.
The independent candidates ranked third in the elections, the minister said.
According to the latest official statistics, the turnout of APC elections hit 44.27 percent, and 42.84 percent for the APW elections.
