Sierra Leone's main opposition party, Sierra Leone People's Party (SLPP) has rescinded its boycott of Parliament and local councils on Friday and directed its members to take part in all government functions.

SLPP officially endorsed the reconciliation meeting between the President Ernest Koroma and its flagbearer Julius Bio on Dec. 3 at which both parties decided to work together in furthering and consolidating peace, democracy, reconciliation and national cohesion.

The National Executive Council of SLPP further endorsed their flagbearer and running mate to continue to provide political leadership until the next party conference slated for sometime next year.

SLPP, the main opposition, complained that the Nov. 17 election was not well implemented and called on the government to address their concerns. SLPP even filed a court action against National Electoral Commission, calling for cancellation of the results.

A total of 121 new parliamentarians, including 112 ordinary members and 12 Paramount chiefs, have taken their oath of office as members of Parliament in Freetown.

Ruling All People's Congress (APC) has 67 members in the new Parliament while the SLPP has 42, comparing APC's 59 members and SLPP's 45 in the last Parliament.

Sierra Leone held its general elections on Nov. 17, incumbent President Ernest Koroma swept to a second term with 58 percent of votes.
