Zimbabwe Zanu PF at the closing 13th national people's conference on Saturday reaffirmed incumbent President Robert Mugabe as the party's candidate for elections slated for March 2013.

The conference ended on a high note with delegates highlighting the need to implement resolutions made during the meeting in order to win next elections.

Some of the resolutions made include holding primary elections early in a free and fair manner and concluding the constitution making process to allow for elections.

The conference that was running under the theme "Indigenize, Empower, Develop and Create Employment" is the last before the country holds harmonized elections next year.

In his closing speech at the conference, Mugabe called on party members to desist from fanning factional fights and ready the party for a resounding victory in next year's elections, stressing that the party must win next year's election.

"Let this people's conference therefore name the year 2012 a year of success but it should also name next year as the year for electoral victory, let that be noted that this conference has definitely decided that next year be named the year of electoral victory," he said.

Mugabe warned party members that electoral victory was dependent on various factors which members should take cognizance of.

He said Zanu PF was denied outright victory in the last election of 2008 because of divisive elements that saw members put personal gain ahead of the party's cause.

"Let us not forget that the circumstances that we found ourselves in came from what we did in 2008. We went into that election either very divided or relaxed," said Mugabe.

"You do not win until you cast your vote; you do not win until that vote is yours so the starting point is to organize the people. We are now like a wounded beast and you know how a wounded beast must fight let us fight back and restore our honor," he said.

"When people are divided or are so over confident of themselves to such an extent that they do not follow party rules, they do not send reports to the party and are relaxed saying because we won the election last time so we are going to win again they are not doing the party any good at all," he added.

"Let us have our structures in place the party should remain very strong and the strength comes from unity first, the people are there organize them and unite them in the name of the party. Leaders must make sure that people are united in peace not around you as a leader, no, but in the name of the party the party does not belong to you," Mugabe said.

The conference was held at a new state of the art conference center built in Gweru, a city about 280 kilometers southwest of Harare.
