At least one security force member was killed in clashes between Tunisian border guards and a group of four armed men near the border with Algeria, Mosaique FM reported Monday.
National guards and army reinforcements have arrived at the scene in the heavily wooded region, while an army helicopter is patrolling the area where the four men are said to be surrounded, Mosaique FM said.
The clashes took place Monday afternoon in Dernaya near the town of Fernana, where Tunisian security forces arrested Saturday two Islamic militants and seized their weapons.
In an interview during the weekend with British magazine The World Today, Tunisian President Moncef Marzouki said both Algeria and Tunisia are threatened by a spread of weapons from Libya.
