Libya and France decided Sunday to further boost naval cooperation between the two countries, a Libyan navy official told Xinhua.

The announcement was made when Hassan Ali Boushnak, Libyan navy 's chief of staff, met with a visiting French frigate, said the source, adding that the two sides agreed to further boost military cooperation in the fields of training, equipment and technology.

Boushnak said the visit of the French frigate, which will stay in the Libyan capital of Tripoli until Dec. 17, aims at strengthening maritime ties between Libya and France, adding that the two navies began cooperation in November 2011.

In December 2011, France said it was ready to offer military training to Libya and is looking into ways to boost cooperation between the two countries.

A number of Libyan military officers and non-commissioned officers will participate in military courses in France.
