The flow of cargo at Malaba and Busia border posts in eastern Uganda was returning back to normal following the conclusion of the Kenyan elections.
Geoffrey Balamaga, the eastern regional manager Uganda Revenue Authority, the country's tax body told Xinhua in an interview on Tuesday that since the Saturday declaration of the election results, cargo that had been held up in Kenya has started trickling into the country and trucks destined for Kenya have started flowing out.
"The flow (cargo outflow and inflow) is still slow but much better. We are hoping that by the end of this week, the flow will get back to normal," Balamaga said.
Alex Rubanda, the Busia Uganda customs supervisor said they expect most cargo that had been held up at the Kenyan seaport of Mombasa to arrive in Uganda this weekend.
Besides the flow of cargo, the trade at the border was drifting to normal.
Some bus companies that ply the Uganda-Kenya routes, that had earlier suspended movement during the Kenya polling process, have resumed.
During the 2007 Kenya's post election violence, violent gangs burnt down cross border trucks along the way to Uganda.
