The African Union Peace and Security Council (AUPSC) on Sunday urged the Darfur armed movements to join the dialogue with the Sudan government to reach a peaceful solution for the conflict in the region.

"We call on all the armed movements in Darfur to join the peaceful process," Polis Paulo Sussu, head of a visiting AUPSC delegation, told reporters here Sunday.

He added that the delegation's visit aimed at enhancing peace and security and encouraging all parties to join the peace process in Darfur.

He said the members of the delegation would listen to the viewpoints of all the parties to get acquainted with the opportunities and challenges facing the peaceful process, noting that the delegation would hold talks with the Sudanese officials in Khartoum and Darfur on the challenges and discuss security developments in the region.

Sudanese Minister of Foreign Affairs Ali Karti, for his part, told reporters that the AUPSC delegation's visit came as part of the efforts to follow up the security situation and developments, as well as the progress of the peace process in Darfur.

The AUPSC delegation arrived in Khartoum Sunday for a three-day official visit, during which they will meet Sudanese officials and make field visit to a number of areas in Darfur region.
