Tunisia : Military chopper crashes in Tunisian capital

A military helicopter crashed Friday afternoon near the U.S. embassy in the Tunisian capital of Tunis, Mosaique FM reported.

Four people on board the helicopter were injured and taken to a nearby hospital, said the radio.

The aircraft crashed shortly before landing at the nearby El Aouina military base.

Eye witnesses said the pilot had tried to avoid crashing on buildings in a densely populated residential area, crash-landing instead on a main thoroughfare.

The cause of the crash is not immediately known.
