At least eight people have been killed in a plane crash in the Nigerian city of Lagos, a rescue agency says.
The casualties came after a charter plane, with 20 people on board, crash-landed on the runway on Thursday shortly after takeoff in the African country’s largest city.
“We have recovered eight bodies so far, while one person who is badly injured is being taken to the hospital,” said Ibrahim Farinloye of the National Emergency Management Agency.
He added that the rescue operation is still underway.
Officials say the small plane, operated by Associated Airlines, suffered “an engine failure” after takeoff.
Nigeria has had a list of deadly plane crashes. Nearly 160 people died in June 2012, when a flight from domestic company Dana Air crashed in Lagos after both its engines stopped working.
