Unknown attackers have fired rocket-propelled grenades (RPGs) at a state-owned satellite station on the Maadi suburb of the Egyptian capital, Cairo.

According to Egyptian security officials, the attack which was carried out on Monday, left two people wounded.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the assault.

The rocket attack came as one army officer and four soldiers were killed in a drive-by shooting east of Cairo.

Security officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the five were on patrol in a pickup truck when masked assailants in another car opened fire on them in an area west of the Suez Canal city of Ismailia.

Earlier in the day, in another bomb attack in Egypt's Sinai, five people were killed and around 50 were injured.

The killings come a day after over 50 people, mostly supporters of Egypt’s ousted president, Mohamed Morsi, were killed in clashes with security forces.

Egypt plunged into unrelenting violence on July 3, when the army ousted Morsi, suspended the constitution, and dissolved the parliament before appointing the head of the Supreme Constitutional Court, Adly Mahmoud Mansour, as the new interim president.

The army-backed interim government has launched a deadly crackdown on Morsi supporters and arrested thousands of Muslim Brotherhood members.
