A car bomb has gone off near the Swedish consulate in Libya’s eastern city of Benghazi, with no injuries reported.
Libyan security officials said on Friday that the explosion seriously damaged the consulate building, which is located in the al-Fouihet district of Benghazi.
“A powerful explosion in front of the Swedish consulate caused serious damage to it and neighboring buildings but no casualties,” said Colonel Abdullah Zaidi.
In August, the Egyptian consulate in the restive city also came under attack by unknown assailants who throw an explosive device at the building and caused serious damage to the place.
The worst of such assaults took place in September 2012, when gunmen attacked the US consulate in the Libyan city, killing ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans.
