At least nine Egyptian soldiers have been injured in multiple bomb explosions in the Sinai Peninsula, where the military has been engaged in a major operation against militants.
The troops were wounded on Friday when improvised bombs targeted their armored vehicles in the town of Rafah, which borders the Palestinian Gaza Strip.
The Sinai has long been considered a safe haven for militants who use the region as a base for terror activities. In recent months, the remote desert region has been the scene of growing violence and militant attacks on security forces.
The Friday blasts come one day after a car bomb explosion killed four soldiers at a checkpoint near the northern Sinai town of el-Arish.
On October 7, three people were killed and around 50 wounded when a car bomb detonated outside a security building in al-Tour, the capital of South Sinai.
Elsewhere, gunmen killed six soldiers in an attack on an army patrol in the Suez Canal city of Ismailiya.
Egypt has been experiencing deadly attacks on security forces on an almost daily basis since the ouster of former President Mohamed Morsi in a military coup July 3.
The move sparked mass protests which were met by a bloody crackdown from the army-backed interim government.
