Iran has extended condolences to the people and government of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) over a deadly train crash which left over a dozen people dead.
In a statement released on Wednesday, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Marziyeh Afkham also offered Iran’s sympathy to the families of the victims.
At least 63 people were killed and 80 others wounded when a passenger train derailed in Katanga in southeastern Congo on Tuesday.
The train, which was travelling north from the town of Kamina in the southern province of Katanga to Mwene-Ditu in Kasai-Oriental province, was overloaded with people, some of whom were on top of the carriages.
The country suffers from poor infrastructure and fatal transportation accidents are a frequent occurrence there.
In 2007, more than 100 people were killed in a similar accident in the African country.
