A car bomb explosion in a busy street in Nigeria’s northern city of Kano has killed at least four people.
The deadly blast hit a predominantly Christian area of the Sabon Gari, known as the foreign quarter, late on Sunday.
Kano’s Police Commissioner Adelere Shinaba told reporters that the blast occurred at about 2200 (2100 GMT). The victims were “three men and a girl of about 12,” he announced, adding that the bomber himself was also killed.
No person or group has claimed responsibility for the blast, but Nigerian officials have often put the blame on Takfiri Boko Haram militants for similar attacks in the past.
The Takfiri group has been carrying out a campaign of terror in northern Nigeria for almost four years. Boko Haram has also claimed responsibility for a number of deadly gun and bomb attacks in various parts of Nigeria since 2009.
Dozens have been killed over the past year in deadly bombings in Kano, which is the biggest city in northern Nigeria.
