Former Defence Minister and ex-army chief Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and Popular Current Founder Hamdeen Sabahi are the only two contenders in the race.

The voting process will take place from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday. About 16 thousand judges are overseeing the process.

The Presidential Elections Commission (PEC) has prohibited all forms of electoral campaigning for either candidate around poll stations during the two voting days.

President Adli Mansour and the Azhar, Egypt's leading Islamic institution, have called on Egyptian eligible voters to cast their votes.

The elections are held amid heavy police and army security measures.

As per the PEC schedule, the results should be announced to the public by 5 June at most.

About 318 thousand Egyptian expatriates cast their votes in 141 consulates abroad earlier in May.
