At the start of the address, Sisi thanked heads of state and guests participating in the ceremony for sharing this historic moment with the Egyptian people.

Sisi pointed out to the fact that throughout Egypt's history, it was the first time an elected president shakes hands with an outgoing president and co-signs the power handover document.

Sisi said that becoming Egypt's president brings with it a great honor and a huge responsibility.

The coming construction phase will realize integrated advancement at the internal and external fronts, the new Egyptian leader stressed.

"We will rectify the past's mistakes and lay down foundations for a strong, fair, safe and prosperous Egypt concurrently with reviving its major role at the regional and international levels," the president has said.

It is about time the Egyptian people reap the fruits of their two revolutions and legitimate aspirations, he added.

President Sisi expressed deep gratitude and appreciation to Arab brothers and international friends for attending the event.

Sisi extended appreciation to Saudi King Abdullah bin Abdelaziz's initiative to hold a conference of Egypt's brothers and friends.

Turning to now-former interim president Adly Mansour, Sisi said Egypt and its people thank him for his great efforts and profound wisdom during his less-than-one-year leadership of the nation.

Sisi had earlier taken the oath of office at the Supreme Constitutional Court, the country's top court, just before the investiture ceremony started at the Ittihadiya presidential palace in Cairo's eastern neighborhood of Heliopolis.
