Hundreds have rallied in the Kenyan capital in protest at, what they describe as, the government's failure to contain growing insecurity.
The Tuesday rally took place outside President Uhuru Kenyatta's office. Kenyan police used teargas to disperse demonstrators shouting "President, Stop the killings!"
"We are tired of statements that do not lead anywhere. We want to make a difference," said Reson Sindiyo, a prominent activist who attended the protest.
"The government is doing much, but not enough. And we need to know two things: that security is everyone's responsibility and… we are fighting a bigger enemy," said Livingstone Ngugi, chairperson of the Kenya Youth Patriot NGO.
Militants allied with al-Shabab, a Somalia-based terrorist group, have carried out more than 100 bombings and gunfire attacks inside Kenya since Nairobi sent military troops into Somalia in 2011.
On November 22, suspected members of al-Shabab executed 28 people in an ambush on a bus in the northeastern Kenyan city of Mandera.
In 2013, al-Shabab terrorists attacked a Nairobi mall and killed 67 shoppers.
