A statement released by the government urged South Africans to desist from hatred against immigrants, saying latest scenarios were shocking.

“The Government of the Federal Republic of Somalia condemns the vicious attacks being perpetuated against its citizens and the looting of their property and businesses.

Somalia and its people are shocked to witness such treatment being meted against their citizens when they have been a staunch supporter of their South African brothers and sisters in their long but successful struggle against Apartheid,” the statement read in part.

Native south Africaqns have taken to the streets to vent out their anger accusing immigrants of taking their jobs.

The statement underscored the struggle the Somalis put up towards liberating Apartheid South Africa in its sunset period.

“History is a testament to the great strides the Somali people and government have gone to ensure the liberation of their brothers and sisters in Southern Africa,” the statement added.

It continued:”Neither effort nor resource was spared in ensuring our South African brothers nor sister’s dignity was upheld.”

The statement termed the latest attack against immigrants, mostly Somalis, as “barbaric” and “unacceptable”.

The government called on its South African counterpart led by Jacob Zuma to arrest the worsening situation.

“We therefore call on the brotherly government of the republic of South Africa to swiftly take appropriate actions to put a stop to these attacks against our citizens and bring to justice those who have committed for offense.”

There is no official record of the Somali nationals in South Africa even as the latest xenophobic attack draws international outrage.
