Newly appointed US ambassador to Somalia Katherine Dhanaani has withdrawn her nomination, citing personal reasons.
Official from white House who sought anonymity said Katherine Dhanaani turned down the nomination for personal reasons. It is yet unclear what forced Katherine Dhanaani to withdraw her nomination after three months.
The state Department had planned to post the new ambassadors to Nairobi until security conditions improves in the Somalia capital, allowing the US embassy to reopen.
Katherine Dhanaani was nominated as the new ambassador to Somalia by US President Barack Obama in February and was waiting Senate confirmation.
The US embassy in Somalia closed after the collapse of the central government in 1991. The US government drummed up Military intervention in Somalia after the civil war broke, prompting the deployment of US -led UN peace keeping mission in Somalia.
