Ghana’s regulatory body for judges has dismissed over a dozen judiciary officials while a dozen more are still under corruption investigation.

The dismissal followed a thorough investigation into allegations of corruption in the judiciary, said Chief Justice Georgina Theodora Wood as quoted by media on Tuesday.

The judicial council would take "prompt and resolute" action to "redeem" the image of the judiciary, Wood said.

Twenty judges and magistrates from lower courts have been sacked by a committee appointed by Wood.

Meanwhile, investigations are pending on 12 judges of the High Court.

In August, an investigative journalist by the name of Sammy Darko in a documentary revealed that some judges took bribes, including sex favors, to influence judgments in court cases.

Darko’s revelations shocked Ghanaians who packed cinemas to see his documentary about the issue.
