Somalia’s President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo has appointed Mahdi Mohamed Guled as caretaker prime minister.
Somalia’s President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo has appointed Mahdi Mohamed Guled as caretaker prime minister after lawmakers yesterday ousted Prime Minister Hassan Ali Kheyre in a surprise vote of no confidence.
Guled was deputy prime minister before this appointment.
According to the provisional constitution, the president has one month to name a new prime minister to replace Kheyre.
Farmajo yesterday accepted parliament’s vote of no confidence in which 170 lawmakers voted to oust PM Kheyre while 8 objected.
Kheyre’s ouster was condemned by opposition parties which saw the move as a step by parliament and President Farmajo to seek term extension, which Kheyre had opposed.
