The Kaduna State High Court on Monday adjourned the culpable homicide case against the leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN), Ibrahim El-Zakzaky and his wife, Zeenat, until March 31.

Justice Gideon Kurada said the adjournment would enable the prosecution to close its case.

The lead prosecution, Chris Umar, who is also the Solicitor General and Permanent Secretary in the State Ministry of Justice, confirmed this to reporters after yesterday’s trial.

Umar said the prosecution had presented 14 witnesses and that the court had admitted several items in evidence.

He did not name the items the court admitted as evidences.

But the lead counsel to El-Zakzaky, Mr. Femi Falana (SAN), told reporters that the items included video recordings, Dane guns, SIM cards.
The lawyer said his team would open defence when the prosecution closes its case on the adjourned date.

The Kaduna State government charged El-Zakzaky and his wife with eight counts bordering on culpable homicide, unlawful assembly and disruption of the public peace, among other charges.
