The Chinese Government has vowed to build a new headquarters for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs which is expected in the next three or four years.



The project, which is estimated to cost a total of Ksh4 billion, will be part of the China's agenda to support Kenya's development.

The State-of-the-art facility will be located in Kenya's capital Nairobi and will be an upgrade of the current offices which are located along Harambee House.
Speaking during a ceremony where the Chinese government donated two VIP buses, Principal Secretary Macharia Kamau welcomed the offer as well as expressed gratitude.

“I look forward to working with you to ensure the completion of this important project before the end of your tour of duty in Kenya," Macharia stated.

On his part, Chinese Ambassador to Kenya Zhou Pingjian promised that China would do whatever it takes to assist Kenya realise its development aspirations.
"We are fully committed to enhancing this relationship. In the embassy we know too well, we are the engine room for the bilateral relationship. Whatever the Chinese side could join you to do do in your developmental efforts, we will try our best," he stated.

It is, however, not clear when the project is expected to start.

Zhou encouraged foreign governments enjoying diplomatic ties with Nairobi to rally behind Kenyan's development agenda.

"With the great influence in the East Africa region, comes the need for capacity building in Kenya. It serves us all diplomats here to be part of Kenya efforts in building the development agenda.

“This year marks the 50th anniversary of the restoration of the legitimate rights of the People’s Republic of China in the UN and we will never forget that October 1971 -- Kenya was firmly with us," he concluded.

Zhou came into the Country in August 2020. Previously, he served as an Ambassador in Nigeria.
