The Kenya Kwanza Alliance has signed coalition agreements with eight more parties in a ceremony observed by Deputy President William Ruto, Amani National Congress (ANC) Leader Musalia Mudavadi and his FORD Kenya counterpart Moses Wetangula.
The enrollment of the eight parties now brings to 12 the number of outfits that have formed the alliance which has pegged its campaign on changing the country’s fortunes economically.
In welcoming the parties to the alliance, Ruto noted that that “the alliance we have put is about changing the economy of our country”.
“We have discussed long and hard about the priorities of our nation and we have come to the conclusion that we must change the fortune of our citizens,” he said.
According to Tharaka Nithi Senator Kithure Kindiki, the agreements will be deposited with the Registrar of Political Parties.
“Each party will retain their distinct and separate identity while sharing in the common ideals of forming the next government because we are forming a coalition of political parties,” he said.
The Alliance will also register ‘Bottom-Up, Pesa Mfukoni, Kazi Na Pesa’ as their slogan.
Parties that signed the coalition agreement include Chama Cha Kazi Party of Moses Kuria, Communist Party of Kenya of Mwandawiro Mghanga, Devolution Party of Kenya Gunga Mwiga, Farmers Party of Irungu Nyakera. Others are: Economic Freedom Party of Issack Hassan, The Service Party of Mwangj Kinjuri, Tujibebe Wakenya Party of William Kabogo, Democratic Party of Justin Muturi and Umoja Maendeleo Party of Governor Martin Wambora.
Mathira MP Rigathe Gachagua said the signing of the charter heralds a new chapter of responsible leadership for Kenyans.
“We want to create a new chapter that of responsible leadership,” he said.
It was during the signing ceremony where the alliance declared that “the worst form of corruption in Kenya presently is lack of trust”.
“The integrity of a leader is measured by their signature and their word. If the two do not mean anything then no integrity lies therein. If your signature means nothing then you do not deserve any leadership position in this country,” Ruto said in an apparent attack directed to their opponents in the Azimio La Umoja One-Kenya Alliance.
The ANC Party Leader Mudavadi asked Kenyans to be weary of politicians who are out to secure their own political selfish interests.
“We cannot afford politics of deceit. The people on the other side cannot barrow the trust deficit Kenyans have been experiencing,” he said.
He expressed confidence that the alliance will emerge victorious in the August polls.
“This is the winning horse and Kenyans can bet on us if they want a winning team. We want to put Kenyans first. Let us pull together and bring integrity to our politics. We shall succeed,” he said. FORD Kenya’s Wetangula asked Kenyans to rally behind the alliance noting that it’s leaders are trusted and can deliver results.
“Kenya is a great country constantly plunging below its weight. This country belongs to the people of Kenyan and its them who will decide. As we move forward let’s all rally behind our captain Ruto,” he said.
