KINSHASA, Jan. 2 (Xinhua) -- The Nyamulagira volcano in the eastern province of North Kivu in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo) erupted overnight, a local source reported.
According to a correspondent of the Observateur newspaper in Goma, the provincial capital, the eruption occurred between Friday night and early Saturday.
The lava of the volcano headed towards the Virunga national park. Until now, there have been no reports of any loss of live or property.
The Niamulagira volcano is situated 20 km north of Lake Kivu in the vocanic mountain chain of Virunga.
