23 Aug 2009 At least six people have been killed and 15 others injured in the Somali capital city of Mogadishu as insurgents vow to step up attacks during the holy month of Ramadan.
Insurgents say they will continue attacks against the African Union forces and the Somali government, despite President Sharif Sheikh Ahmed call for ceasefire during the holy month.
The exchange of mortars and missiles between the government soldiers and the assailants happened on Sunday in southern Mogadishu.
Witnesses told Press TV correspondent in the region that missiles destroyed many houses in Bakara and Howlwadaag district of southern Mogadishu.
The clashes have continued in the past four days. Insurgents attacked a government-controlled Mogadishu checkpoint earlier on Saturday.
