US president Barack Obama has pledged to help Africa to develop in a message delivered to the heads of state at the AU summit on Monday by US Attorney General Eric Holder.
Obama said the key areas of support would be combating global terrorism, international crime, promotion of good governance and the rule of law, creating capacity for economic development and gender equality.
Eric Holder said Africa’s importance on the global stage had grown, noting that a stronger Africa meant a strong America and the US would work with the AU to fight corruption.
He also revealed to AU members present that the World Bank estimated that 30 trillion dollars was lost to bribery in the global economy as an effort to fight against poverty in Africa.
