Islamist rebels warned that extra African Union peacekeepers to Somalia will face serious attacks.
The spokesman of Al-Qaeda linked group of Al-Shabaab Sheikh Ali Mohamud Rage threatened on Thursday that Mogadishu will be a graveyard for AU extra peacekeepers which was planned to reinforce AMISOM war against rebels.
"The extra troops you are planning to send here will not be different from those they deployed before. By the will of Allah, Mogadishu will be their graveyard, while their families will cry back home," he told reporters.
He said that the move will reinforce their war against AU troops with government soldiers. "We are telling the African populations not to get duped by the mirage peddled by your leaders. Let your sons not be annihilated in Mogadishu," Rage said.
"Those who are pushing your leaders such as the U.S. and Europe are in agony in areas they invaded. They want you to share with their people the loss, mourning and cries," Al-Shabaab’s spokesman warned.
Somali government which controls a few block in Mogadishu welcomed the African Union’s decision to enhance its force in Mogadishu where Al-Qaeda linked group are trying to take over.
"We appreciate the fresh troop contributions made by AU states. We believe this decision will help improve the security situation in Somalia and also contain the threat al-Qaida elements are posing to the region in general," government spokesman Abdulkadir Mohamoud Walayo said.
The Horn of Africa nation has not had an affective government since warlords overthrew longtime dictator Mohamed Siad Barre in 1991.
