MBALE -- Five people were killed and dozens injured in a mudslide on Friday night in eastern Uganda, local official said here on Saturday.
Wilson Watira, chairman of Bududa district, told Xinhua on telephone that the incident in Kibokolo sub-county, the second in this week, killed five people after an earlier one in Bushiyi sub- county killed one on Wednesday.
Watira appealed to government agencies for assistance in the rescue operation as local rescue team was not able to reach the scene due to poor road network.
According to local residents, several rivers in the area burst their banks during the last few days due to increasing rainfall.
Several landslides in Bududa district killed at least 350 people in March, leaving thousand of others displaced.
Many residents living in landslide-prone areas are reluctant to relocate to safer places though the government advised them to do so as another rainy season draws close.
