A Kenyan court has sentenced seven Somali pirates to take five years in jail on Thursday. The East Africa nation jailed the pirates on charges for attempting to seize a Spanish ship last year.
The men were handed over to the Kenyan authorities for prosecution after being arrested in May last year.
About 15 pirates are serving jail terms in Kenya and about a hundred are in custody.
Earlier in September seven other Somali pirates had been jailed five years for attempting to hijack a German ship in March.
In 2006, Kenya sentenced the first Somali pirates to seven years in jail while early this year another seven were jailed for 20 years.
Kenya and Seychelles are the only African nations prosecuting pirates in the Horn of Africa nation.
The foreign warships patrolling the waters are now being outwitted by the pirates who now hijack ships far into the Indian Ocean.
