The new head of Guinea's election commission has announced that postponed second round of the presidential elections will now be hold on October 10.
Lounceny Camara, who replaced the late Ben SĂ©kou Sylla, announced the new date earlier this week. However, Camara's appointment to head the commission has generated controversy, casting a cloud over the acceptability and credibility of the outcome of the elections.
On the one hand, the supporters of Alpha Condé's Rassemblement du peuple de Guinée welcome the choice. They say it is in conformity with the law, as he is a member of civil society. But those who back Condé's rivals in the election, Cellou Dalein Diallo and his Union des forces démocratiques de Guinée, doubt he will be neutral - they say he is a supporter of Condé's party.
