Malawi : Jamaican poet tours Africa

Celebrated Jamaican poet and musician Mutabaruka whose real name is Allan Hope will participate in the Poetry Africa Tour which starts on September 26.

The Poetry Africa Tour aims at celebrating poetry with ever – wider constituencies and stimulate meaningful cultural exchange between artists, audiences and countries.

Several other artists will participate in the tour alongside Mutabaruka and they include Malawi’s Frank Chipasula, Tanzania’s Mama C, South Africa’s Pitika Ntuli and Barolong Seboni.

According to available information, the tour starts on September 26 in Cape Town, South Africa and then Harare, Zimbabwe on September 28 and 29.

The poets will then perform in Malawi on October 1 at French Cultural Centre in Blantyre during the Blantyre Arts Festival.

The Blantyre Arts Festival is the country’s annual arts event which will bring artists from both Malawi and neighbouring countries.

Malawi will next month also host the Lake of Stars which brings on stage several artists and this year Zimbabwe’s Oliver Mtukudzi is among the headliners.

The coming of Mutabaruka to Malawi has brought a lot of smiles especially rastas and his performance is expected to attract more fans.

Recently Jamaican duo Brick and Lace also performed in Malawi and the show attracted a huge crowd.
