Nairobi — African diplomats have told India that they will not allow their sportspeople to lodge in facilities that do not meet minimum hygienic standards after their inspection of the Commonwealth Games village discovered it was in "unsanitary with inadequate bed-capacity".
The diplomats from African and Asian Commonwealth countries' accredited to India made the decision when they inspected the sporting and lodging facilities at the Commonwealth Games village on Saturday, said the Zambian High Commission in New Delhi in a press release.
The diplomats discovered that facilities allocated to their contingents had inadequate bed-capacity and unsatisfactory sanitation. "Another tour was to be conducted to ensure that lodging conditions were of acceptable standard," stated Mr Bwalya Nondo, spokesperson at Zambia's High Commission in India.

"An inspection of sporting facilities however revealed that, the amenities including the main dining hall were of quality standard."
Apart from Zambia, other African countries participating in the Commonwealth games include Botswana, Cameroon, Ghana, Kenya, Lesotho, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, Rwanda, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Swaziland, Tanzania, Gambia and Uganda.
