Young entrepreneurs in the Nigerian commercial capital of Lagos were full of smiles as they recorded huge profits during the country's 50th independence anniversary celebrations, describing this year's golden jubilee as the best ever for business.

In spite of the apathy expressed by some Nigerians and bomb explosions in Abuja where dignitaries gathered for the 50th anniversary, many citizens took to the streets of Lagos brandishing wears and gears in the colours of the country's national flag of green, white, green, paving way for businesses to thrive for many.

Donald, a dealer in clothes and other accessories told AfricaNews that the rush for green and white coloured souvenirs and clothing like never before made him financial fulfilled.

''I have been selling since morning and I know I have made a lot of money today. They bought whites designed with green; even long sleeve shirts designed with white...belts, white, handbags. Some buy shoes, white shoes. Today is bigger," Donald said in Ikeja area of Lagos.

For Femi Legushe who sells and repair handsets it was time to show generosity to his customers. "My customers, have been giving them pay cut from the prices...I have been giving people discounts."

He added ''the celebrations have been very great'' and called on the leaders to use the country's golden jubilee to become more responsive to the plight of the masses.
