A widespread drought has affected many pastoralists in Somalia. Gedo and Lowere Jubba regions of southern Somalia are reportedly the most affected areas. The affected families have now started flocking into urban centers, seeking an alternative livelihood there.
The great famine has resulted in malnutrition in children and elderly persons since their livestock have reduced their product of milk and meat.
The reports also say many of the animals have started dying for lack of water and pasture.
“There is a drought in the region and we are hungry,” said a pastoralist. The humanitarian aids in the regions are still struggling.
