At least six people were injured Tuesday when Police in Guinea opened fire on youths supporting Cellou Dalein Diallo, a candidate in the presidential run-off election due for this weekend in the West African country.
Witnesses told AFP that Police fired live ammunition at some of the youths who had initially attacked the police, throwing stones in several districts of the capital Conakry. The police had reportedly giving out warning shots before the live fire.
The violence comes less than a week before Sunday's second round of a presidential election, scheduled between Diallo who belongs to the Union of Democratic Forces of Guinea and long time opposition leader Alpha Conde.
The second-round presidential poll between candidates, Cellou Dalein Diallo and Alpha Conde, had been originally scheduled for September 19, but was delayed because of election violence that left one person dead and 50 others injured.
In the first round held on June 27, Diallo pulled 43 percent of votes while Conde had 18 percent.
